RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER DENIES PLANS TO IMPOSE ECONOMIC SANCTIONS ON GEORGIA

Speaking on 18 October at a press conference at Interfax's Moscow office, Foreign Minister Ivanov said Moscow will not impose economic sanctions against Georgia because sanctions are not a tool of Russian diplomacy. Ivanov pointed out that such sanctions would affect primarily the population at large, who "are not responsible for some of the actions of their leaders." He added that there are no "insurmountable" obstacles to improving Russian-Georgian relations, naming as the sole factor that has undermined such good relations in recent years the presence of "international terrorists" on Georgian territory.Visit also
