On the eve of the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist acts in the USA Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to George Bush in a phone conversation. As press secretary of the president of Russia Alexei Gromov told, Putin noted that he wanted to talk to the U.S. president "precisely today." "In Russia they say that time heals everything," Putin said. "But there are things which we cannot and must not forget." On that day the head of the Russian state, as he said, would like to once more "express not simple sympathy but also support to the people of America on the part of the Russian people." As Bush noted in reply, in the US they remember that last year the president of Russia was the first of the heads of state to ring him up on the day of the tragedy. According to the press secretary, the U.S. president deems it to be portentous that a year later Putin was also the first to voice sympathy with the American people on the day of memory.
