Abkhaz fighters entered Kodori gorge, President Shewardnadze confirmed

The Georgian president Edward Shewardnadze stated in his traditional Monday radio interview that information that the Abkhaz fighters entered Georgian controlled Kodori gorge corresponds reality. The president’s Representative in Kodori gorge informed that up to 100 Russian soldiers and Abkhaz fighters entered the upper Kodori, violating the agreement on demilitarization of the Kodori gorge. Kvitsiani told the reporters today that Georgian helicopters was fired by Russian soldiers on August 12, causing no casualties.

Kvitsiani told the reporters today that Georgian helicopters was fired by Russian soldiers on August 12, causing no casualties. Kvitsiani was onboard of helicopter. Later the Georgian Defense Ministry clarified this information saying that only Abkhaz fighters (no Russian) were reported in the Georgian controlled territory adding that the talks with the Abkhaz side are under the way.
