GEORGIAN PARLIAMENT SETS DEADLINE FOR CLOSURE OF RUSSIAN MILITARY BASES

The Georgian parliament passed on 10 March by a unanimous vote a resolution demanding that Russia agree by 15 May to close its two remaining military bases in Georgia by 1 January 2006. Should Moscow fail to meet that deadline, the Georgian Parliament will ask the Foreign Ministry to stop issuing visas to Russian military personnel and instruct the Finance Ministry to designate Russia\'s outstanding debts for use of the bases part of Russia\'s state debt to Georgia. Nika Rurua, deputy chairman of the parliament\'s Defense and Security Committee, calculated the sum involved at between $300 million-$400 million.Visit also
