The pro-presidential Asar party announced in a 1 July press release that party leader Darigha Nazarbaeva, the daughter of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev, will give up her post as CEO of Khabar news agency from 1 July to 30 September. Asar will field candidates in 19 September parliamentary elections, and Nazarbaeva is temporarily relinquishing her post \"to avoid possible speculation by [Nazarbaeva\'s] political opponents over the situation.\" Nazarbaeva said that while legal advisers told her that it would be legal to retain her position at Khabar, she decided against it nonetheless. The Central Asia-Caucasus Analyst is a biweekly publication of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute & Silk Road Studies Program, a Joint Transatlantic Research and Policy Center affiliated with the American Foreign Policy Council, Washington DC., and the Institute for Security and Development Policy, Stockholm.
