JAILED KYRGYZ OPPOSITION LEADER LOSES SUPREME COURT APPEAL

Kyrgyzstan\'s Supreme Court on 15 August refused to overturn the 10-year prison sentence of former Vice President and national security chief Feliks Kulov, now head of the Ar-Namys Party and one of the country\'s most prominent opposition figures, RFE/RL\'s Kyrgyz Service reported on 16 August, quoting acting Ar Namys leader Emil Aliev. Party members are convinced the Supreme Court decision was dictated by the authorities, Aliev said, and the party intends to appeal to an international court and to international human rights organizations. The charges against Kulov include abuse of office and other criminal actions committed during his government service.Visit also
