ABKHAZIA WILL RECOGNIZE RESULTS OF TRANSDNIESTRIA REFERENDUM - LEADER

Sergei Bagapsh, president of the breakaway republic of Abkhazia, has said his republic fully supports the aspirations of the self-proclaimed republic of Transdniestria toward independence and integration with Russia. \"We fully recognize the results of the referendum held in Transdniestria on Sunday. Abkhazia supports the aspirations of Transdniestria toward independence and its choice of unification with Russia,\" he told Interfax on Monday.

Abkhazia supports the aspirations of Transdniestria toward independence and its choice of unification with Russia,\" he told Interfax on Monday. \"In the morning I talked on the phone with President of Transdniestria Igor Smirnov and congratulated him on the success of the referendum,\" Bagapsh said. Speaking of the possibility of an independence referendum in Abkhazia he said: \"Our republic had an independence referendum in 1999. Abkhazia is an independent state and we are not planning any repeat referendum.\" (Interfax)
