THREE ARMENIAN PARTIES AGREE TO FORM COALITION GOVERNMENT

Leaders of the three major political parties that support President Robert Kocharian -- Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Chairman and Prime Minister Andranik Markarian, Orinats Yerkir (Law-Based State) Chairman Artur Baghdasarian and Armen Rustamian of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutiun (HHD) -- signed a protocol on 11 June at a special ceremony at the presidential palace on forming a coalition government, RFE/RL\'s Yerevan bureau and Armenian news agencies reported. Under the agreement, Markarian will retain the post of premier while Baghdasarian will be named parliament speaker. The National Movement of Tajikistan has sent an appeal to the countries guaranteeing the peace accord of 1997 that ended the Tajik civil war, requesting them to intervene to force the cancellation of the national referendum on a series of constitutional amendments that is scheduled for 22 June. The appeal, which was also was sent to the United States, the OSCE, the EU, and other international institutions, was quoted as asserting that the only objective of the referendum is to enable President Imomali Rakhmonov to remain in office for two more terms. Four former Soviet republics balked at a Russian proposal to tighten control over sales of shoulder-fired missiles that Moscow says have become terrorist tools, news reports said Tuesday. Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov made the proposal Sunday at a meeting of defense ministers of the CIS in Kazakhstan. On Monday, CIS ministers signed an agreement on boosting controls over the sale of portable missile systems, but Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Georgia refused to sign.KAZAKH PRESIDENT DISMISSED KAZAKHSTAN\'S GOVERNMENT

President Nursultan Nazarbayev dismissed Kazakhstan\'s government after Prime Minister Imangali Tasmagambetov tendered his resignation earlier on Wednesday, pleading an allegedly rigged confidence vote in parliament. The government rejected changes to a draft Land Code made by the lower house in April. Following that, Tasmagambetov, after consulting the Constitutional Council, proposed that parliament take a vote of confidence in the government.Visit also
