UN REJECTS AFGHANISTAN CRITICISM

UN officials in Afghanistan have rejected a report by an international think-tank describing the process of choosing a new constitution for the country as flawed. The Brussels-based International Crisis Group (ICG) said last week that the push towards democracy in Afghanistan lacked transparency and favoured factions already in power. But a UN spokesman in Kabul said the findings of the report were ill-informed and based on factual inaccuracies.SOME KAZAKH MINISTERS REAPPOINTED

In a16 June interview with grani.ru that was reposted on chechenpress.com, Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov\'s envoy Akhmed Zakaev explained that Maskhadov maintains contact with radical Chechen field commander Shamil Basaev primarily with the aim of trying to dissuade him from launching suicide attacks and said that Basaev does not coordinate his military activities with Maskhadov.Visit also
