PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN IRAN AND PROSPECTS FOR AZERBAIJAN

But at the same time, Azerbaijan and Iran have expanded economic cooperation during the last year. So, in comparison with 1998, trade turnover has increased by 6 and has reached US$600 million a year. The move comes several days after a group of Azerbaijani parliamentarians visited Lefkosia, the capital of the Northern Cyprus and held talks with the political leadership of the republic. Hadi Rajabli, the head of delegation, in an interview with ANS-TV said that the intention behind the trip was to lift the political and economic isolation of the island through informal meetings between Azerbaijani parliamentarians and their colleagues in Northern Cyprus.The delegation of Azerbaijani businessmen to Cyprus also includes several prominent Azerbaijani singers, as well as works of Azerbaijani artists and sculptors.
TENTH YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF NIYAZOV’S HEALTH PROGRAM

Along with other major state reforms in the country, President Saparmurad Niyazov declared “Saglyk” (health) as a National Program in 1995. The chief purpose of this program is to reconstruct the healthcare system in Turkmenistan to an utmost level, prepare new local specialists in the field and provide the nation with medical services that meet the challenges of the Golden Age of the Turkmen.Announcing similar big policies and accepting national programs for the future prosperity of the country is very widespread in Turkmenistan.
ARMENIA PLANNING TO REVISE ITS CONSTITUTION

The current form of the Armenian Constitution has been frequently criticized by the political opposition in Armenia and most recently underwent strong criticism by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) for not providing enough checks and balances between the various branches of government. As a result of this constitutional structure, there is an enormous concentration of power in the office of the president of the country. To monitor the compliance of Armenia’s proposed constitutional amendments with PACE requirements for Armenia’s integration into European structures, the AGO group (the monitoring group of the Council of Ministers of the Council of Europe), lead by permanent German representative to the Council of Europe Roland Wegener, paid a visit to Armenia.Visit also
