IRAN, RUSSIA HOLD TALKS ON CASPIAN SEA ISSUES

Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Gholam-Reza Shafe\'i in a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Presidential Special Envoy Viktor Kalyuzhny here on Monday, discussed issues pertaining to the Caspian Sea. In the meeting, the conferring parties exchanged views on the need to promote various Caspian Sea conventions, operation of trans-regional enterprises in the sea and its consequences on the region. Meanwhile, the role of media in the process of Caspian developments and ways of demilitarizing the sea were discussed.IRAN READY TO ASSIST AZERBAIJAN\'S RECONSTRUCTION

Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said here Monday that Iran is ready to contribute to Azerbaijan\'s reconstruction. Kharrazi told Azeri Minister of State Property Farhad Aliyev that long-term plan should be worked out for expansion of economic ties between Tehran and Baku, particularly in the commercial, development and energy sectors. Azerbaijan and Iran are close to signing a bilateral agreement on dividing the floor of the Caspian Sea. \"If our working groups manage to meet the deadline, the agreement will be signed during Iranian President Mohammad Khatami\'s visit to Baku,\" Azerbaijan\'s Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov told journalists on Monday. Seven people alleged to be activists of the Muslim extremist Hizb ut-Tahrir movement have been arrested in northern Tajikistan and Dushanbe. The Tajik Interior Ministry spokesman said that the detainees, all aged between 25 and 30, have been members of the movement for more than a year and that police searches of their homes had turned up large numbers of Hizb ut-Tahrir leaflets and \"religious propagandist literature.\" 120 alleged Hizb ut-Tahrir members have been detained in Tajikistan and several dozen have been jailed, while large quantities of the movement\'s literature have been seized.Visit also
