Post-Soviet leaders will continue a two-day informal summit in southern Russian Wednesday, focusing on a common energy market and customs union as part of the five-member Eurasian Economic Community (Eurasec). The presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Belarus joined Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Russia\'s Black Sea resort of Sochi Tuesday, along with the prime minister of Armenia, which is an observer in the organization. \"The agenda includes the formation of a customs union within the organization,\" a Kremlin source said earlier in the week.

The Uzbek Prosecutor-General\'s Office released a report on August 15 claiming the breaking up of over 1,000 drug groups in Uzbekistan since January 2005. The report stated that the \"activities of 1,088 interregional criminal groups, which attempted to use the territory of Uzbekistan as a corridor for smuggling drugs to CIS and European countries, were stopped in the country from January 2005 to June 2006.\" Uzbek authorities added that the vast majority of the drugs seized were \"of Afghan origin\" and \"smuggled via Uzbek districts bordering on Tajikistan.

Iran\'s oil minister promised Tuesday not to reduce gas supplies to Turkey. Kazem Vaziri Hamaneh\'s pledge came after more than two hours of talks with Turkish Energy Minister Hilmi Guler. Last winter, Iran -- a major supplier of natural gas to Turkey along with Russia -- reduced the flow of natural gas during a cold snap.

Iranian Oil Minister Kazem Vaziri-Hamaneh is scheduled to leave for Turkey on Tuesday, leading a top oil delegation. Expansion of bilateral relations between the two countries, export of Iran\'s natural gas to Turkey and the transfer of Iran\'s natural gas to Europe via Turkish territory are among the main topics expected to be discussed during the visit. Iran has earlier conducted preliminary negotiations with Turkey over its gas export to Austria through that country.
