Two Georgian peacekeepers and several Ossetians were injured on 8 July in an exchange of fire near Tskhinvali, capital of the unrecognized Republic of South Ossetia. Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania told journalists in Tbilisi that the Ossetiansattacked the peacekeepers\' post and abducted one of them. Zhvania told foreign ambassadors in Tbilisi on 8 July that Georgia \"must do everything possible\" to avoid bloodshed.

The situation in South Ossetia is becoming increasingly worse, Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania told foreign ambassadors in Tbilisi on Thursday. \"Our post between the villages of Tamarasheni and Kurta in South Ossetia has been attacked,\" he said. \"We are closely watching the developments and doing our best to prevent an armed clash,\" he said.

The Kyrgyz National Security Service believes that militants from the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan might have been involved in attempted terrorist attacks on the anti- terrorist coalition base in the Bishkek airport, Service Chairman Kalyk Imankulov said on Thursday. \"The National Security Service believes that the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan might have been involved in attempts to commit terrorist attacks at the Gansi airbase at Manas International Airport near Bishkek,\" he said. Former airbase commander Steven Kelly said recently that Kyrgyzstan and the airbase security service had prevented no less than three terrorist attacks.
