TURKMEN LEADER REBURIES PARENTS

Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov oversaw the reburial of his parents and two brothers in a ceremony broadcast live on national television on 10 December, Turkmen TV reported. The bodies were moved from a cemetery in Kipchak, Niyazov\'s native village, to a mausoleum specially constructed in the village by the French firm Bouygues. Kipchak is also home to a Bouygues-built mosque capable of accommodating 10,000 people.

Kipchak is also home to a Bouygues-built mosque capable of accommodating 10,000 people. Niyazov\'s father was killed in World War II at the age of 33; his mother and brothers perished in a 1948 earthquake in Ashgabat. (RFE/RL)
