CHECHEN LEADERSHIP WILL INSIST ON BAN ON FEDERAL TROOPS WEARING MASKS

Alu Alkhanov, the Chechen president elect, will work for a ban on wearing masks by federal serviceman during special operations in his republic, Chechen envoy to Moscow and Deputy Prime Minister Ziyad Sabsabi said on Ekho Moskvy radio on Monday. \"The decision to ban the wearing of masks was made some two weeks ago. Alu Alkhanov will continue efforts in this direction,\" he said.

Law enforcers say that unidentified armed groups wearing masks and operating at night are involved in the abduction of civilians in Chechnya. \"If we fail to guarantee security, our people won\'t need homes, paved streets, schools or day care centers,\" Sabsabi said.
