Tajikistan\'s Justice Ministry turned down the opposition Taraqqiyot Party\'s application for registration on 29 March. According to the Justice Ministry, 11 of the 1,173 people listed as party supporters have denied involvement with the party. Taraqqiyot Chairman Sulton Quvvatov told the Avesta website on 29 March that party members were \"illegally detained and even tortured\" to force them to renounce their party affiliation.
