PUTIN SIGNS LAW ON RUSSIAN AIR BASE WITH KYRGYZSTAN

President Vladimir Putin has signed into law a federal bill ratifying the agreement with Kyrgyzstan on the status and operating conditions of the Russian air base in Kyrgyzstan, the Kremlin press service reported on Thursday. The State Duma passed the bill on July 8 and the Federation Council approved it on July 13. The Kant air base is part of the air wing of the collective rapid deployment force of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Central Asia.

The Kant air base is part of the air wing of the collective rapid deployment force of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Central Asia. The base was officially opened in October 2003. The agreement has a term of 15 years and will be automatically prolonged for five years if neither side wishes to terminate it. (Interfax)
