LEADING KYRGYZ PRESIDENTIAL CONTENDER, ALLY REAFFIRM PACT

Leading presidential candidate and acting President Kurmanbek Bakiev and Feliks Kulov, head of the Arnamys Party, announced in a joint appeal on 20 June that their alliance remains strong in the lead-up to the 10 July presidential election, RFE/RL\'s Kyrgyz Service reported. The two noted that they have given up their posts in the government for the duration of the presidential campaign in order to prevent any untoward use of so-called \"administrative resources.\" In light of recent unrest in Bishkek, they stated, \"We warn that rioting will be countered as harshly as possible.
