KYRGYZ PRESIDENT ASKS PARLIAMENT TO RATIFY BORDER AGREEMENT WITH CHINA

In an address to both chambers of the Kyrgyz parliament on 7 May, President Akaev asked deputies to ratify the 1999 border agreement with China under which Kyrgyzstan ceded to China some 95,000 hectares of disputed territory. Akaev said that he wants the agreement ratified before the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg in June.
