The last of the estimated 12,000 Afghans who took refuge in late 2000 on islands in the Pyandj River that marks the Afghan-Tajik border to escape fighting between Taliban and Northern Alliance forces have set off for their abandoned homes. They have been supplied by the UNHCR with flour, soap, and materials to build temporary dwellings. (Asia Plus-Blitz).
