Armenian Energy Minister Armen Movsisian announced on 15 April that the Armenian government has prepared a new agreement on the planned construction of a natural-gas pipeline from Iran to Armenia. This new agreement, to be signed in the next two months, follows a series of meetings between Armenian and Turkmen officials last month and includes a special role for Turkmenistan in the gas-pipeline plan. Construction of the pipeline is to begin in early 2003 and seeks to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan through Iran and on to Armenia.
