Muhiddin Kabiri was formally chosen on August 14 to lead Tajikistan\'s Islamic Renaissance Party (IRP) in the wake of longtime leader Said Abdullo Nuri\'s death. An official meeting of senior party officials in Dushanbe approved the nomination of Kabiri to replace Nuri, who died on August 9 after a lengthy battle with cancer. The 40-year-old Kabiri is a former deputy chairman of the party and the sole remaining IRP representative in the lower house of the Tajik parliament.
